After contracting large-scale projects to the military, oil companies, and transportation industries, PowerFilm is shifting to the consumer market of outdoor enthusiasts. Using lightweight, thin-film solar technology, PowerFilm launched The LifeSaver Line to power USB-compatible devices such as cell phones and laptops.
The Lifesaver Line consists of three lightweight lithium batteries within a solar module. Presently, only the original LifeSaver is available for purchase; other products will be made available after Christmas 2015 and through Spring 2016.
The Original LifeSaver weighs 4.7 ounces and takes between 5 to 6 hours of solar recharge time to equal roughly 3.5 hours of wall recharge time.
The LifeSaver Pocket weighs 3.5 ounces and takes between 8 to 10 hours of solar recharge to equal roughly 3.5 hours of wall recharge time.
The Lifesaver Maxx weighs 22 ounces has two USB outlets and one 12 volt, 60 watt port. It takes 6 hours of solar charge to equal 12 hours of USB recharge and 2.5 hours of 12V recharge.
Despite being thin and lightweight, the products are very durable, functioning fully after being submerged in water, extreme temperatures, and even shot with various firearms.
