Flotation is a major international trend in the energy industry today, but the Japanese solar market announced their plan for a floating solar plant in 2014.
Kyocera Corp. and Century Tokyo Leasing Corp. are now constructing the 13.7 megawatt floating solar plant on the Yamakura Dam reservoir near Tokyo. The plant is scheduled to launch in March of 2018.
The plant has grown from its planned size, and is now estimated to provide 16,170 megawatt-hours of electricity to power about 5,000 local homes.
